The primary goal of the Student Assistance Program (SAP) is to help students overcome these barriers in order that they may achieve, remain in school, and advance.  While Student Assistance Programs exist in other areas of the country, the structure and operation of the program in Pennsylvania is a unique expression of an integrated model serving the needs of Pennsylvania families and their students.

Recovery

Change on Hamilton Recovery Center is a vital part of Lehigh County’s harm reduction strategy, operated by volunteers in recovery and professional staff. While not a treatment facility, the center offers referrals to treatment and essential resources for individuals at all stages of recovery. The center provides case management, 12-step support groups, recovery activities, clothing banks, and community drives to meet the diverse needs of those seeking support. Change on Hamilton’s mission is to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for individuals navigating all stages of recovery from substance use. The center’s programs are designed to foster hope, inspire change, and empower individuals to build meaningful lives in recovery.

Programs and Support for Families

FORT is free of charge to Lehigh County residents, because Lehigh County Drug and Alcohol fully funds this program through Opioid Settlement Funds. Since its beginning in the Bethlehem office, FORT has touched the lives of over 100 families in the Lehigh Valley, offering critical support and healing.

FORT Provides:

  • Comprehensive counseling services including individual therapy, couple’s therapy, family therapy, case management, family peer support, and group therapy. 
  • Support for all ages, starting from as young as five years old. 
  • An inclusive definition of “loved ones,” accommodating non-biological relatives and those with deceased loved ones. 
  • Weekly codependency groups and psycho-education sessions about substance use disorders. 
  • Specialized groups, like one devoted to grandparents raising children. While the grandparents are in their group, a concurrent one for the children operates at the same time.

Pyramid Healthcare in Allentown offers individual, group and family therapy.

  • Individual therapy – one-on-one counseling that provides personalized support for adults struggling with substance use and mental health challenges.
  • Group therapy – group sessions allow individuals to connect with peers facing similar challenges, providing a supportive environment for sharing experiences and learning from one another.
  • Family therapy – family therapy sessions provide a safe space for open communication, helping families understand addiction and mental health challenges. Involving loved ones in the recovery process strengthens support systems and fosters healing.
