The goal of this website is to provide families, individuals and organizations across Lehigh County with increased awareness of the opioid epidemic, and guidelines and resources to assist in prevention and recovery efforts.

What are Opioids?

Opioids are a class of drugs that include synthetic opioids such as fentanyl; pain relievers available legally by prescription, such as oxycodone (OxyContin®), hydrocodone (Vicodin®), codeine, morphine; the illegal drug heroin; and many others.

What is Fentanyl?

Fentanyl is a potent, fast-acting opioid that’s 50-100 times as strong as morphine. It is a growing contributor to the opioid epidemic in Pennsylvania.

The vast majority of overdose deaths in recent years involved illicitly manufactured fentanyl and other potent, synthetic opioids, which may be added to other drugs and consumed unknowingly.

Narcan Can Reverse an Overdose.

Naloxone, commonly referred to by the brand name Narcan®, is medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose. Narcan is safe, easy to use and lifesaving. It is available without a prescription in PA.
